Q1 featured our first ever joint networking event with the Minnesota Chapter of HIMSS at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, WI. KPMG sponsored the event and had Bruce Eckert, a Director with KPMG’s Advisory Practice, present on IT integration, separation, and due diligence for healthcare provider clients.

Bruce debunked common healthcare myths, offered personal examples of his experiences with the healthcare system, and presented solutions for how IT can (help) fix American healthcare.

Section 3: Sponsor Spotlight

Before we dive into our sponsor spotlight for this quarter, we thought now would be a good time to direct you toward our new sponsorship benefits webpage. While the benefits are largely the same, now might be a good time to review to see if you're effectively leveraging your benefits and decide whether a different sponsorship tier is for you. Email WI HIMSS Director of Sponsors, John Pollard, with any questions.

2019 will be a year of firsts for the Wisconsin Chapter of HIMSS.

Not only are we hosting an inaugural event in Q1 and presenting a new structure for our Annual Spring Leadership Conference next May (more on that below!), but you'll notice a key word omitted in the first sentence of this email.

If you didn’t catch it, look closer at our logo.

We're now the Wisconsin Chapter of HIMSS. "Dairyland" is no longer part of our lexicon. Minor? Yes, but we thought we'd try to avoid surprises. Please update any saved addresses you might have in your directories

  • wi.info@himsschapter.org
  • wi.membership@himsschapter.org
  • wi.president@himsschapter.org

Now onto the items we especially don't want to be surprises…

What's Next

STEM Forward’s Wisconsin Regional Future City Competition

Join ambitious middle school students as they create cities of tomorrow. The next Future City competition is on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at MSOE's Kern Center and we’re looking for judges and mentors as students present their virtual city. Please email Kim Pemble if interested.

Border Battle No More

We're off to the races in Q1. After most of you are all wrapped with HIMSS National in Orlando, we're buckling down and getting something on the calendar that'll be new to everyone.

The HIMSS Minnesota and HIMSS Wisconsin Chapters are teaming up for their first ever joint event in Hudson, WI on Thursday, March 28th, 2019. Mark your calendars and get ready to network with the folks on the other side of the Mississippi.

Speaker is TBD and the location is as follows:

Annual Spring Leadership Conference

For the first time ever, we're hosting track sessions. We grew the event considerably last year and are hoping to have even more descend upon the Dells to learn from some of the greatest minds in healthcare.

Our theme for 2019 is Patient Engagement/Patient Experience and our keynote speaker, Raj Nijhawan, is back by popular demand!

Watch for a registration page soon, but Save the Date in the meantime! Reach out to Treena Hoffman if you are interested in presenting at the conference.

Looking Back

Q4 featured a networking event at HotelRED in Madison, WI. Bluetree sponsored the event and had employees Austin Brandt and Daniel Fleisher present on patient access strategies and implementing patient access centers.

From contact center implementation planning, to optimizing scheduling and registration, to discussing how data can drive ongoing optimization efforts, Austin and Daniel discussed how patient access can boost employee engagement and make the patient experience a more meaningful one within your organization.

Hello -

STEM Forward organizes the Wisconsin Regional Future City Competition for middle school students to create a city of tomorrow. The next Future City competition is on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at MSOE's Kern Center.

We are reaching out today to assess your interest in joining several of your HIMSS Wisconsin colleagues as part of a team judging exercise at this year’s Future City projects. While we are still unsure of the exact amount of volunteers needed, please express your interest now so we can follow up with you near the end of the year.

I'm interested

Volunteering Details:

Serve as a mentor and judge as middle school students present and discuss their virtual city of tomorrow at the regional competition. Students must design a power grid for their city that can withstand and quickly recover from a natural disaster. It'll be your job to engage with them during their presentation and ask questions specifically related to a Wisconsin HIMSS-sponsored award that involves health and care delivery in their city.

This year, Kim R. Pemble will again be gathering our judging team at MSOE beginning at 7:30am, and judging will begin at 8:00am. Our work should be concluded by 11:30am. More details to come later this month.

Hope you can join us!

While cuisine might be the last thing on your minds following the upcoming and well-deserved holiday break, we have some brain food for you on patient access strategies exactly one week after Turkey Day.

Dear current HIMSS member,

Mark your calendar for Thursday, October 4. This is the official date for YOU’VE BEEN HACKED – NOW WHAT? at The Great Dane in Wausau, WI.

We have so many great things planned for this event this year, including our first interactive speaker, Jeff Olejnik.

Bad stuff happens. How your company responds to a data breach, device loss or ransomware event will either minimize or compound the impact of the event.

In this session, we will review components of an effective Incident Response Program (IRP) and facilitate an interactive group tabletop exercise to simulate the decision that needs to be made during a crisis.

Wearables, Ingestibles, and Implantables

What is Possible?

Ingredients for Success

The medical possibilities for intelligent, internet-enabled medical devices is vast. To date, the wearables market (think Fitbit, Apple Watch and so forth) has made the most of the early running. But the scientific value for ingestibles and implantables represents a different level of magnitude.

Imagine receiving a text message notifying you that your grandmother forgot to take her pill this morning. The technology is within our reach. Ingestion monitoring systems have been approved and tested extensively.

Imagine a diabetic patient having a device fitting inside their body that measures their sugar levels and automatically releases insulin when it is needed.

COMMUNICATING FOR TRUST AND TRANSPARENCY

What would it be like to have the courage to say the things you truly want to say – without sugar coating them, without having to use the “sandwich method,” or without editing them to the point that they no longer sound anything like what they sounded like in your head? What would be different within your team if each individual spoke fiercely yet compassionately  about key issues in a completely unfiltered and unedited way? At the end of the day, communication is one of the most essential components of our overall effectiveness and our happiness.

During this interactive session we will:

• Reflect on areas within our teams and our lives in which we might be speaking less than the truth by editing or filtering

• Explore ways to speak more truthfully, more clearly, and with more impact by using the Curiosity-Based Communication Model ©

• Learn specific and actionable tools to have more powerful conversations within our teams, our organizations, and our relationships.
